How to make quilt templates

Quilt Making Send feedback »

Templates are patterns so to speak, only with templates you cut the materials you need from strong fabrics. Otherwise, if you were making patterns you would cut the templates from ordinary paper.

At what time you create templates, you are making your quilt making process easier. The surface patterns will flow consistently as well. You can use your created templates and trace along your patterns, instead of pinning graphing paper to your quilt material. You can purchase ready-made templates, however if you create your own you will save money. You can purchase transparent plastics at craft stores, or stores that carry supplies, such as craft, paper, pencils, etc. If you choose plastic, you will need to individually, trace your patterns. You will need allowance for your seams. After you create your patterns, cut your templates. The plastic templates are ideal for making larger quilts.

Straight grains make up woven textiles. The grain lines run comparably along the edges of the non-fraying edges in the materials. Across the “straight grain,” is another line known as the “cross grain.” Crafters use the term to define the lines, such as “Fabric on the grain.” You will need to eliminate the edges, by cutting it off.

The non-frayed edges are makes up the areas that have not been cut, especially around the label and the snug woven areas.

How to create basic templates:
Creating templates is as simple as tracing your footprints on paper. To create your templates you will need to choose plastic and/or paper. Once you make your choice you will need to trace your template to paper, add a few permitted seams, and then use adhesive to add your trace to a clip of hard copy, i.e. cardboard or the like and cutout your templates. Stop: before you cut your templates, first replicate copies and play with the patterns until you achieve your desired mark. Once you achieve your patterns add numbers and/or letters to mark your pattern. This will help you remember where each template goes. Next, you will cut your pattern parts out, using common scissors. Cut the outside areas only at the edges. You will need to create one template per piece to add to your quilt.

Next, trace your patterns, tracing the parts onto your plastic and/or paper. Space the parts once inch in all directions, and away from the other. Use a measuring device, such as a ruler to draw ¼-inch line at the outer outline. On your templates, create a dot. You want the dots to meet two seams per count. The dots are important to mark your stitching areas.

Next, use your direction of textile thread lines (Grain line) and convey the arrows you have created from your model parts and relocate it to your template. You have made basic templates; however, there is a variety to choose from.

Tip: You can invent templates using software installed on your computer.

In addition to the basic templates, you can make window templates. The templates are ideal for those want to pierce by hand. You can also make templates for pre-prepared designs. Window templates can assist the beginners, since you will have a marked line to follow through when you begin stitching. The windows are easy to make, yet you must follow the “hand piercing: rules to complete your patterns. You can also add templates to your window, which may include emblems such as roses, bouquets, etc. Regardless the window, basic, or other types of templates can lead up to a block/border pattern, rather a fashionable quilt.

How to Classify Bonsai Trees

Bonsais Send feedback »

The size and classification is important when growing Bonsai trees. You want to understand each to decide what you want to grow and how to take care of the tree.

Chokkanis one of Bonsai’s single growths, which is tapered at the trunk and sits upright. The trunk often has glowing branches so that when you peer down at the tree it will seem as though the branches are growing at the peak. The branches are balanced at each angle. The trunk of the tree near the front should have two-thirds of the section showing. The branch begins its growth at the base of the tree. The first branch is always elongated and thick with points leaning toward the front, or is somewhat angled at the side. The following branch extends to the opposing wall. The branch should grow higher than the first branch. The succeeding branch grows near the back of the Bonsai tree, and higher than the latter branch. The rear branches determine the outcome of the trees appearance. The back branches should tilt somewhat near the front. The lower branch should grow one-third of the way up the trunk, and the following branches should follow in arbitrary patterns up the tree. You will notice a natural effect, which shows that the Bonsai is growing correctly.

Classes of Bonsai:

Katade-Mochi is a type of Bonsai tree. The tree grows up to 12 inches. Katade has two classifications, which include Abelia and Pyracantha. Pyracantha grows up to 10 inches. Chumono grows up to 30 inches. The imported tree is one of the oldest breeds of Bonsai that introduces Ginkgo. Ginkgo is a Chinese tree, which is tall, deciduous trees have minute fan-shaped leaves with edible seeds. The tree derived from Native or China. What’s more, bonsai is extensively cultivated around the world. Ginkgo is also known as the Maidenhair tree.

Chumono is an upright tree, which has older evergreen effects. That is, the evergreen effect has shrubs, flat dark green needles, and red cones that are similar to berries. Taxus Capitata is its Genus name. The tree grows up to 27 inches.

Another of the upright Bonsai is the Wild Shadblow, also called Shadbush, Juneberry, and Serviceberry. The tree has plants with edible berries. The small Bonsai or shrubs come from the rose family grown in native or North American lands. The tree bears constellations of white flowers. Likewise, the tree produces minute size, ripe, dark blue fruits. The tree is the member of Amalanchier Canadensis. Serviceberry grows up to 18 inches.

Florida Buttonwood grows up to 20 inches. Florida Buttonwood is like the mangrove tree, which comes from Africa tropics and/or America. The Latin name is Conocarpus erectus. Cascade grows around 2 ½ inches. Cascade or Kengai has a trunk erects from the soil almost in a straight line. The erection starts at the base, or section of a tall container. At the opposing edge, the trunk curves near the opening of the container. You can grow this breed with more than one stem. Bonsai, such as the cascade grows branches, which curve down, while the tips extend up. Do not wire the tips so that it points down.

Moyogi or the slanted Shakan is an upright tree, which the trunk differs slightly from other bonsai trees, i.e. the trunk slightly curves and slants to one side or the other.

Additional styles and classifications include the Semi-cascade or Han-Kengai, Broom, and Literati. Semi-cascade is slightly modified from the cascade. In short, the shrubs are not as steep. Moreover, the top may be bulkier than the cascade. Broom and Literati is a variant to the bonsai classifications and styles.

The Truth about Colic

Colic Send feedback »

Colic is so common among infants that most people are not surprise anymore when it happens. Still, for the first time mom it can be a harrowing and panicking experience especially with her normally quiet angel screaming non-stop in the background. It is usually manifested at about two to three weeks of age. It becomes more prominent during the first two months and subsides at three months old. Colic altogether stops at about three-and-a-half to four months of age.

Colic is actually not so dangerous. It might seem so though from the way babies would cry and scream at the top of their lungs. In fact, it can be so common that parents may experience an episode on a daily basis; and after the first episode, parents usually learn to handle succeeding ones with aplomb. Still, physicians and scientists cannot pinpoint up until now just what exactly causes colic. It just happens.

Colic, to those who are not familiar with the problem, is a stomach ache that occurs after eating. Because of the continuous pain, babies cry for hours and hours until the colic is relieved. Crying can last for about one to four hours, depending on the severity of the pain. Babies’ cheeks will also become red from the exertion and perhaps the pain.

When there is colic, the belly of the baby may become distended or may become enlarged. One leg will be bent while the other will extended straight out. The feet will become cold and the hands clenched tight because of the pain. This is actually a common reaction for people whose stomachs pain them.

Often, it will occur late in the afternoon or early in the evening after every meal. It can however also happen any time of the day. Not all babies suffer from colic and some even suffer less frequent than others. Medical experts believe that genetics play a role. It seems that if one or both parents have suffered from colic when they were babies, their offspring will also experience colic episodes.

Still, there are factors that will exacerbate a colic condition in babies. Below are some of them. Read on so that you can avoid these factors and prevent your baby from further suffering.

1. Overfeeding can only worsen the situations when you have a colicky baby in your arms. Make sure that your baby is suffering from hunger and not colic before you feed him again.

2. There are certain foods that will worsen the colic. Those with high sugar content, those with undiluted juice will only increase the gas in the stomach and thus, exacerbate the condition.

3. Intestinal allergy may also cause colic so it is important for moms to know just what makes their babies allergic. It may be from something that they have directly eaten or something that you passed on through the milk in your breasts.

4. Intense feelings can also affect colic. Emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety and excitement should be avoided as this will only worsen the pain for the baby.

The best way to help your baby is to first not panic and then to read up as much as possible even before an episode occurs. Nonstop crying can be a result of a host of other things so it is important that you also keep your eyes open so that you will know what exactly ails your baby. Keep in mind that there is no known cause; so there is also no known cure for it except to make the experience as comfortable and less painful as possible.

Learning Time Management

Time Management Send feedback »

“A wise man will learn everything and a stupid man will learn nothing.”

Learning time management is not as difficult as many believe. In fact, when we first start school we are in the process of learning new strategies that help us obtain goals. When our parents teach us we are, also learning skills needed in time management.

The advantage of learning requires the proper training, and since our world constitutes a variety of teachings; this is where time management becomes difficult. The best part reward from learning is learning who we are. We have our parents, schools, peers, political leaders, newspaper, and many other resources that tell us to do this for best results or do that for best results and all of them differ. Our parents are some of the best teachers in life since most parents care for their children and will help them to see their mistake clearly.

Teachers are great also, but everyone was raised differently, which is another subject, for the most part, it does affect how we think and behave. The correct form of managing time is to understand your individuality and what you can handle. If you are struggling, you might be working at a job that over succeeds your ability to function as a person. You might want to find a job that matches your abilities and skills.

Biting off more than you can chew is one of the first steps to the road of failure. If this is true then your time management is out of order. It might be that you are not meeting the demands that are placed on you, but have the ability to accomplish the responsibilities. Regardless, the time management scheme is out of order.

We can break time management down according to individualities, but for the most part managing time is the process of handling tasks placed upon us without decreasing our flow of work or succeeding our ability to handle the tasks. We need the ability to alter our plans, since people, places, things, and businesses change. We need a direct order of skills to make a plan work and need the ability to comply with those plans.

We need to learn to accept changes as they come and learn social skills and conditioning in order to manage our time. Changes are accepted through proper punishment and rewards. If we fail to accept a change in life, it might be because rewards or punishment is not in action.

When you find your self in a difficult spot and handle it accordingly, a reward is in demand, but if you hit a difficult spot and you fail, punishment is in demand. Punishment is not harsh; rather it is a form of correcting an action or decision made. This gives us balance if we are correcting our selves when we make bad decisions and rewarding our selves when we make good decisions. It is important that rewards and punishment are positive, since balance is essential in managing time.

Positive Skills

Positive skills lead us to a positive light. When we are balanced and learning our time is spent wisely, which contributes to time management. Another great tool to have in the road to success is motivation.

Motivation is achieved in many ways, and some things in life can affect how we feel or think. Some of the things that affect our motivation levels are smoking, caffeine, lack of exercise, overeating, lack of dieting, and having the ability to cope with changes.

To cultivate motivation then we need to treat our minds and body good, and plan to reach our purpose in life. Learning time management is essential for all the things we do in life. From the first day, you came into the world up until the time you went to school you began learning time managing skills in all directions, and mostly you were on the road to learning yourself, which is a priority if you want to set goals for your future.

If we do not understand who we are as an individual, we are not learning what it takes to managing our time wisely.

Do not waste time get on the learning boat!
